        China Society for Urban Economics 

        China Society for Urban Economics (CSUE) was established in May 1986. It is affiliated to Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, with the office situated at the Research Institute for Ecological Civilization. CSUE is a national-level society registered at the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is an open academic platform, aiming to carry out forward-looking theoretical research on urban development and urban economy, summarize urban development experience, and promote exchanges among cities, universities, and research institutes, thus promoting sustainable urban development.

        The first President of CSUE, Wang Daohan took three sessions of the office in the early days. His successors were Zhou Daojiong and Jin Baoping, each of whom took one session of the office. The first Honorary President of CSUE was Wang Renzhong, followed by Fei Xiaotong, Li Tieying, and Wang Daohan. The previous advisors include Jiang Zemin, Fei Xiaotong, Gu Xiulian, Liu Guoguang, Wang Luolin, Chen Jiagui, Wu Shuqing, etc. The previous Vice President include Wang Maolin, Wang Guangtao, Zhou Ganzhi, Long Yongshu, Li Jingwen, etc. The current President of CSUE is Professor Pan Jiahua, one of the distinguished Scholar of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and former Director General of the Research Institute for Ecological Civilization (former Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies).

        At the first annual meeting of the establishment of CSUE, Jiang Zemin, the former mayor of Shanghai, served as the advisor of CSUE. At the second annual meeting in 1991, Zhu Rongji, the Vice Premier of the State Council, met the delegates and made an important speech on “Urban Economic Development and Construction”. After more than 30 years of development, CSUE has established a rich network with a large number of experts and scholars, including 36 academicians, government officials, more than 500 professors and associate professors, and a total of over 1,000 members from universities, research institutes, urban management departments and enterprises.

        As a national level society, CSUE has always been adhering to the principle of promoting and serving cities, focusing on major theoretical and practical issues in urban economic reform and development, especially key and challenging topics. CSUE mobilizes resources to support members, experts and scholars to conduct in-depth studies, publications and policy recommendations, and promotes extensive academic exchanges among government, universities, and research institutes. With its intellectual resources and social networks, CSUE provides consultations on national strategies, regional and city level sustainable development strategies and plans, urban environmental governance, etc. and make contribution to China's urban development reform and high-quality development.
